I think it depends on how you want to look at it. If by obscure you mean 'little known', then perhaps there's a better chance of winning. On the other hand, if you want to define obscure as 'uncertain' then I'd say that there is a higher risk of not winning anything. For instance, I bet on tennis from time-to-time but my winnings are normally limited as compared to when I bet on soccer.
