Have you ever heard of the people who risk large sums of money in attempt to convert this into a big win? Such is the story of Archie Karas who was famously known as the 'king of the casinos.' It is said that he managed to amass $40 million with a winning streak of about two years. Now, that is quite a huge sum, if you ask me.

There are countless people like this but unfortunately, most of them go on to lose the amounts they make. At times, I ask myself whether gambling is meant to be profitable because even when you make a lot, there's always that temptation to keep going. I'm one person who's very risk averse.

I read somewhere that Archie Karas then lost it all again, in only three weeks (Wikipedia agrees). It's proof that one of the most important things to learn in gambing is when to stop and collect your winnings. Ashley Revell did slightly better, doubled his money, used it to start a business and now supplies gambling equipment. He doesn't play any more.

Very true @Tolly. Karas' story is a sad one because with that amount of money, a person can do a lot. Ashley Revell's story, on the other hand is an interesting one. He sold all his possessions and used $US 135,300 to place a single bet on red thus doubling his money. People don't regard him as a professional gambler since it is said he purely relied on luck.

Wow, before reading this thread, I'd never heard of Karas' story believe it or not. That's crazy, both how much money he won and how short of a time it took him to lose it.
