Hey guys, I know a lot of us gamble for fun, but sometimes that's not the case. So, do you play poker mostly for fun or for profit?

I always enjoy playing poker but if I were to be honest then I have to say that I am mostly motivated by getting good enough at the game to be able to make a living from playing poker.

I mostly play for fun, but sometimes I do hope to win to such an extent that I stop having fun and start feeling anxiety especially if I have a lot of money at stake.

Niall49, I think it's great that you have motivation to get better at the game and become proficient enough to make a living out of it. I wish you the best of luck.

Saldina, I fully understand what you mean.I think it's normal for us all to want to win and do the best we can even if we are just playing for fun.

I love playing poker. I play mostly for fun, but when I win, it's an added benefit. I enjoy playing the game and always look for new ways to get better at
it.

Kameron, it's great that you play the game for fun and try to get better. I think when people start taking it too serious they start to take away from what they originally enjoyed about the game.

I have to be honest. There were a couple of times when I actually played for money rather than for the fun of it. I did win some games, but I learned that it could get dangerous. So I stopped doing that.

I can describe myself of a semi-pro. And let me explain what my perception of semi-pro poker player is.

I've never played poker for a living, but also I've earned some decent money from it. I started playing (for fun) back in 2010. There was a promotion in a popular at that time poker forum where they give you 50$ for free. Of course like 95% of the field I lost them in a few days.

Then I made a small deposit (20$) and started playing some sngs and cash games at Full Tilt (loved this website so much). I lost them as well, then made another deposit (turned out to be my last poker investment in terms of money).

I've never been kind of an ultimate gambler and always preferred the safe way. So, I promised to myself that I'm never deposing more money. Luckily, I ran well, invested a lot of time in improving my skills over the years and reached a bankroll peak of 5500$ (starting with that 40$). During that time I had like 10 4-figure wins, played with some of the best players worldwide, so it was a nice ride.

Of course, I had some dreams of playing professionally, but just enjoy my profession so much and I am sure my family won't be happy with my switching to gambling, so I am still playing for fun but with some nice profit.

I love your explanation @N3v3rFoLd1ng. If that is playing for fun, then I want to join that bandwagon. Poker is fun indeed but I believe that the monetary gratification that comes with it even more fulfilling. If I was part of your family, you'd have my full support.

I'm yet to find someone who doesn't gamble for money. Yes, there's the part where you're doing it for fun but at the end of it, making some money is normally the sole aim. All the same, gambling can be very enjoyable, especially when you aren't chasing losses.

Yes, poker is profitable with fun. It is not as lightly to make big money in poker anymore. You have to read a lot more and have a professional approach to the game.

I would say both - if there is a profit, you are having fun. If there is not, you can at least enjoy the game.

I got acquainted with poker more than 10 years ago, repeatedly tried to start playing systematically, but I get bored, I prefer to play bridge and, in other words, with beer :) for me it is somehow more fun to play, actually, not online, these games are more conducive to communication, poker for me is work and earnings, not leisure

Mostly I play for fun but it's a great bonus always to earn some money and to have some fun at the same time. With a couple of years playing poker I recognized one important thing less you think about money more you win. It's a true rule for me :)

However, some people who like to play poker online and are serious players will continue playing for free on online poker rooms like http://cintapoker.in/review/betsedge/ that accept credit cards. Playing online poker for free has its advantages. First of all, you don't have to drive across the country to play. That could easily cost you a couple hundred dollars. Secondly, because you can play online for free, you don't have to commute. You can play your game in your pajamas, while watching TV, going to work or sleeping. Before you can start playing at online poker sites, you need to become a paying member. Every poker room has its own poker rules that you need to follow. Some poker rooms have special rake systems that you need to know about. You can usually find this information from the home page of your chosen site or by looking for the "about us" or "rules" sections.

I love playing poker with friends for money, the amount is not great, but the excitement and interest is there
