General Is gambling a social event?

I read an article recently which said that gambling was a loner's hobby and that it was one of the most antisocial evenings out you could have.
I kind of know what they're getting out - that you don't really stand and chat a lot, but I wouldn't say that. Would you?

It depends on how you treat it.
I have been at times when I just want to be on my own so I can just gamble on my own, and the there's been other times when I want to see what other people are up to.

It is when I do it!

I've had a fair few nights out on my birthday or at new year with all my friends and it has always been a very social affair.

Until it's time to come home that is lol

GreenKing you're right - I guess it does depend on what you want to do.
I think some games by their nature are more social than others. The slots really aren't.

Gamblers is for loners, whichever way you look at it. When I was serious gambler about two years ago, I would spend time alone and would stay indoors doing a lot of research.

I couldn't talk much around people because my mind was always focused on what I'd do next.

Horse racing and dog racing are both social events though, aren't they?
Me and all my mates used to go to the dog track every new year it was a great day.

It depends on how you want to look at it. For instance, we can call it a social event if friends meet up and go to the casino together.

Having said that, I think the fact that gambling is addictive can create loners at times.
